FAQ 1 - GETTING STARTED

If this is your first time entering an online gaming competition, please follow this checklist guideline to help you get started! 

Gaming Requirements - Before proceeding you must have the following;

NOTE - If you are experiencing difficulty connecting because of FIFA21 PS4 and PS5 version compatibility, please scroll to the bottom on how to solve.

1. A console

STEP 3 >> CONNECT TWITCH

During the course of the tournament, your game(s) may be selected to be livestreamed on our social media and website channels. 

In order to participate in the livestream you will need to be able to broadcast onto the most popular streaming platform called Twitch. This platform is compatible with both PS4 and XBOX consoles. Note - it does require a good internet connection.

FAQ 2 - ORGANISING GAMES

Once you're registered for your first online gaming competition, please follow this checklist guideline to help you get playing some games!

If you do not have all of the below you CANNOT register for this competition until you do so. Please refer to the next section on how you can find these items

  1. Games Console - check that you have the correct console for the categories offered. 
  2. FIFA21 Game - Please note that currently FIFA21 is not cross-generational so you cannot use a PS5 version of the game (once released) and play against players with the PS4 version. If you have upgraded your FIFA21 to the PS5 version you can only enter PS5 categories.
  3. Playstation Plus or XBOX Live Gold Subscription

STEP 1 - FIXTURE SCHEDULING, ADDING SCORES & MATCH REPORTS

How do I know who I’m playing against?

Registration close on the afternoon of the competition start date. Later that afternoon/evening you will be sent an email with a link that will direct you to your own portal.  That portal will have your home and away games.  It will also have the Online IDs of all your opponents.  You are then required to send friend requests to your opponents so the games can be set up.  All communications between players need to take place via the Discord channels created. A link to your channel will be emailed at the beginning of the competition  Esports Live will not be able to release any players’ personal details.

What do I do once I know who I’m playing against?

Contact your opponents via the Discord channel and agree to a time to play with each player. All matches must be played by the deadlines outlined in the email sent at the beginning of the competition. Both parties are required to make communication whether you are the home or away team.
The home team can list the agreed time in the scheduling portal. 

At the agreed time one team will be required to set up the game using the correct settings in FIFA 21 and invite the other player (can be done by either player). Once the match has been played the home team takes a photo of the game screen with the final scores then heads to their scheduling portal to upload the score and upload the photo as a match report.

Please do not schedule games without first agreeing on a time with your opponent.

If your competition has finals, once all the the matches in your group have completed, qualifying teams will appear in the finals fixtures.

Edit your privacy settings to ensure you can receive friend requests and receive messages off new people who you come up against in the competition you've entered.

STEP 3 >> HOW TO ADD OPPONENTS

Now that you're ready to organise your game you will need to add a player in your group as a friend so that you can organise a game to be played. You cannot organise a game without being friends on the console.

MESSAGING APP ON YOUR PHONE or DEVICE

In order to communicate easily, we strongly recommend downloading the Discord app for your mobile or PC which allows quick response and organisation of games. A link to the channel for your group will be provided with the fixtures.

Once you've messaged and confirmed the time, date with your opposition then you can move onto the next step of inviting them to a game.

STEP 4 >> INVITE OPPONENT TO GAME

How do I structure the games on the invite? 

For 90 Overall Tournaments set the game to:

  • Game mode: Online Friendly
  • Half length: 6 minutes
  • Controls: Any
  • Game Speed: Normal
  • Squad Type: 90 Overall
  • Injuries: On
  • Offside: On 
  • Handball: Off
  • In the event of a draw (Pool Games): End in draw 
  • In the event of a draw (Finals): Teams rematch and the first goal to be scored will be deemed as the Golden Goal
  • Please note FIFA21 is now 90 Overall rather than 85 overall in FIFA20. The process is the same. See the video below.

4.2. Applies to FUT Cup.

  • Game mode: Classic Match
  • In the event of a draw over 2 legs; Teams rematch for the 3rd time and the first goal to be scored will be deemed as the Golden Goal
  • The result of any games that are not played under the conditions above will be deemed ineligible


Once you've selected the correct settings you can then press INVITE and SEND to opponent. They need to be online in order to accept the and join the game.

COMPATIBILITY ISSUES WITH PS4 & PS5 FIFA21

This means that you cannot play PS5 FIFA 21 against PS4 FIFA 21, but it is still possible to play PS4 opponents on PS5 by loading the PlayStation 4 version of the game onto the new console.

You can have both the PS4 version and the PS5 version of FIFA 21 installed on PlayStation 5, and use either version to play against or with specific opponents online depending on which console they own.

  • How to download PlayStation 4 FIFA 21 on PlayStation 5

If you played FIFA 21 on PlayStation 5 before December 3 2020, then the PS4 version will already have downloaded to your console as the PS5 version was not yet released.

If you played FIFA 21 on PlayStation 4 first and then used the dual entitlement offer to install the game on PS5, then it is possible that the new console downloaded both versions of the game.

If you did not play FIFA 21 on PlayStation 5 until after December 3, you may have to download the PS4 version separately to the new console.

To do this, scroll to FIFA 21 in the Games menu and then scroll down to the "Play" option. You should see three dots beside this. Click on these, and you should be given additional options including "FIFA 21 | PS4."

Click on this and the PS4 version of the game will start downloading. Once it has downloaded, you will be able to play both the PS4 version and PS5 version on PlayStation 5.

  • How to switch between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 FIFA 21

Once you have downloaded both the PS4 and PS5 version of FIFA 21, you can easily switch between the two after turning on the PlayStation 5 console.

From the Games menu, scroll to FIFA 21. The game's title in the menu will indicate which version you are currently playing. It will say "PS4" beside the name if it is the PlayStation 4 version and just say "FIFA 21" if it is the PlayStation 5 version

To change to the other version of the game, press down to show the "Play" button and other options. Click the three dots icon to open the other options.

One of these options will be the other version of the game, either "FIFA 21 | PS4" or "FIFA 21" and clicking on that will change to that edition.

If that edition is not yet installed on the console, it will download it before you can play.
